Official Opening
The inauguration brought together local leadership, the District Commissioner, partners, sponsors and donors who share a commitment to advancing inclusive healthcare.
Our story, mission and team at a workshop built on partnership, expertise and heartfelt care.
We opened our doors in 2018 with a simple but powerful vision: to empower people to live their fullest lives through innovative prosthetic and orthotic solutions.
From the very beginning, our clinic was built on a foundation of partnership, expertise, and heartfelt care. Over the years, we've grown alongside our clients, expanding our expertise and services while staying true to our founding values.
Whether you're seeking a custom prosthesis, advanced orthotic support, or simply looking for a team who listens and understands, we are here for you, every step of the way.
We aim to empower individuals with disabilities in Tanzania by providing top-notch prosthetic and orthotic services and devices, fostering a self-sustaining lifestyle.
To create a better life for individuals with disabilities.
From a small bench team to a regional centre of rehabilitation excellence.
Mwanza Prosthetics & Orthotics Workshop was established with a clear mission to improve mobility, independence and quality of life for people living with limb loss and physical disabilities. Our team started small, with just five dedicated individuals, each passionate about combining science, creativity and compassion.
The MPOW was officially inaugurated in 2019, marking a significant milestone in improving access to rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities in the Lake Zone region of Tanzania. The ceremony brought together the District Commissioner, healthcare professionals, community leaders, partners, sponsors and donors.
Guests toured the facility, learned about the workshop's mission, and witnessed demonstrations showcasing innovative prosthetic and orthotic solutions designed to restore mobility, independence and dignity.
Following the official opening, our first major endeavour was an outreach visit to Shirati Hospital in the Lake Zone. We provided technical support, clinical assistance and hands-on training to local healthcare professionals working with persons with disabilities.
Patient assessments were conducted and collaborative sessions allowed for knowledge exchange between practitioners, ensuring local teams could continue delivering improved care long after the outreach concluded.
In celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd, 2021, MPOW organised a special outreach initiative to improve mobility and enhance quality of life in the Lake Zone region. Approximately 150 individuals received prosthetic devices free of charge.
The programme brought together our clinical team, community partners, volunteers and supporters to assess patients, fabricate prosthetic solutions and provide rehabilitation guidance tailored to each individual's needs.
Through dedicated outreach programmes and collaborative partnerships, the workshop has provided donations in the form of prosthetic limbs, orthotic devices and a wide range of assistive equipment. To date, more than 300 individuals have directly benefited.
These efforts go beyond simply providing devices. They include clinical assessments, fitting, rehabilitation guidance and follow-up support to ensure long-term effectiveness.
We have organised and participated in hands-on training sessions in Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Malawi and Sierra Leone, aimed at improving access to affordable, high-quality prosthetic care. These programmes focus on practical, skills-based learning.
By emphasising low-cost technologies and efficient clinical practices, we support local practitioners in producing durable, functional prosthetic solutions that meet international standards while remaining accessible to underserved populations.
